Houston Storms/Tornado May 2024 Response

Severe storms with 100+ mile per hour winds and tornado-twisters have ripped through the Houston metro area. Two major long-distance transmission lines were severed, leaving nearly 1 million people without power. Thousands have no water, and at least 21 water treatment facilities are out of operation. We expect the sewer systems to back up today, causing even more unsafe conditions. At present, four lives have been lost.

Organizing Resilience is fundraising in partnership with the Power Up Harris County campaign, the Texas Organizing Project Education Fund, the Texas Workers Relief Fund, Workers Defense Project and other local partners to raise funds for eligible 501c3 organizations working to help people who have been impacted by the storms – folks who are missing work and will be set back financially. The organizations listed above are all assumptive grantees but there will likely be others as well.

We need your help to raise $1 million in the next 24 hours to adequately respond to the situation on the ground in Houston.
